Me running down the beach scaring all the beach goers. Its was awesome!!
Looking back over the years its come to my attention that our family as a whole likes to have goals and projects. It's just who we are and it seems that it's been passed down for generations now. Our Christmas Cards are no exception. This year I thought we would give you a little behind the scenes on how this organic process takes place.
Step One: The Idea
Mom and Dad actually talk about the Christmas/Holiday card all year round. They get inspiration from random places and little by little they narrow it down to what makes the giggle the most or the one that just sticks!
Step Two: The Costumes
Then its Mom's job to pull "The Look" together and Dad likes to VETO anything and everything until its just right.
Step Three: The Photo Sesh
Usually in the last week of November the parentals come up with a date to just bite the bullet and get it done (especially if Magbooty is around to help!) This is when Dads creative juices really start to fly!! The photo session is usually pretty quick, maybe even less than an hour and BOOM the magic has been made.
Step Four: The Card Creation
Dad is the one that is in charge of pulling the photos together and creating "the look" of the card. He's pretty witty so the text really makes the card come to life. Mom just hangs around for spell check and criticizing Dad on his card design and layout choices (he loves this). While Dad does his thing Mom goes over the address lists to add (and sometimes subtract!) from the big list.
Finally, they look it all over together, Dad signs the card with love from dead pets we've had over the years and the presses submit to place the final order.
Step Five: Stuff, Seal, Stamp
The final step is probably the one that actually takes the longest and most boring!
Hundreds of cards arrive and we all giggle - Mom writes in some, we stuff the cards, ad address labels & stamps (and sometimes stickers!!) and off they go!!
Ever year it's a fun game to see who will get the first one and we all wonder if they think its as funny as we do. I'm sure some years are better than others but I love the tradition, the planning and seeing it all come together!
Here's a few snaps & a video from the 2017 Christmas card photo shoot : )
Merry Merry!!
