2017 April Showers Bring ..... Unicorn Frappuccino's? Broken Ankles? Slime?

 Is April a Filler Month?

Is April some kind of a filler month? Sure, we did fun things and the sun starts to finally come out so that's something I suppose. Here's the run down for good measure and we will see...

This year was the first I didn't run the READ< RIGHT < RUN event with our school. I passed the torch to Morty and as it turns out he's a speed demon and didn't need me to lead the way anyhow. Good thing I got out before he smoked me in public!!

I had to show the first grade class who's really boss. Photo bomb time!!!

Checking out the competition is tough work. Way to look cool guys!

Dad came on his normal mode of transport and  snuggled me while we waited for Morty's turn to line up

Just look at that stride!

The BEST part of April was the culmination to our Oregon Trail unit in 3rd grade. I don't think you can understand the fear one has to deal with when someone utters the words Typhoid, Cholera or Dysentery!! I'm pretty sure I have PTSD from all the sane bites my group had to endure through the course of the many routes we took. It was brutal! Then Mom bough the at home version thinking we might "enjoy" playing it at home!!

It was more than I could bare.
Maeve on the other hand was super chill when she contracted the worst bugs.  How does she do it??!!

AS you can see I had quite a large family and one more on the way to take care of so you can imagine the stress!
The best part about this unit coming to an end (other than my cortisol  levels evening out) was that we were able to go to an Old Timey Place in Creve Coeur, Missouri and spend a day pretending we were back in those times. We wore old times clothes, brought lunches that could only be created back in the day (like in a pail or cloth on the end of a stick, we made candles from scratch and my all time favorite part? We made BUTTER from scratch!! We had a routin, Tooting good time and Ill never forget it!

Thank Cod for sewers systems and inoculations!!!

Okay , so there is one thing I do really like about April and that's being able to go back to playing sports outdoors. Sure, its still a bit chilly but nothing beats the cool wind in your hair when you're running down a field. Lacrosse Season was well under way and I was going to give it my all!
Go RedSkirts!

True to Missouri weirdo weather patterns some days were scorchers and some were freezing and raining.

No matter what, we gave it our all and I even scored some goals!!! Truth be known, I still prefer to be a defender but It was fun none the less. The back to back game - not so much! Hopefully next season will be less brutal.

Did you hear about this?
Apparently Starbucks isn't making enough money so they decided to come up with mystery drinks for people to try. They only come out for about a week and everyone rushes in to try one of these "One Hit Wonders" - This might be the end of the the of intrigue for. This one was called The UNICORN Frappuccino! and here is what SBux promised....

~Here for a few days only: The flavor-changing, color-changing, totally not-made- up UnicornFrappuccino. Magical flavors start off sweet and fruity transforming to pleasantly sour. Swirl it to reveal a color-changing spectacle of purple and pink. It's finished with whipped cream-sprinkled pink and blue fairy powders.

Sounds yummy - right? HELL NO! It was Vile!! Like drinking sour patch kids with whipped cream. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! But it sure was pretty ; )

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Speaking of gross things - have you heard that making SLIME is all the rage? We just can't get enough of it. After making it at the Ponciroli's house its all we can talk about. Mom finally gave in and we were ready to experiment! Gamma was there to supervise too!
At first everyone was smiles. Who doesn't love mixing things together to see what happens? After a while  it was starting to look like we had done surgery on some poor animal. NOT pretty!!

The glitter kind of brought it to a whole new level of gritty gross but we still loved it. I'm guessing that Gamma was happy it wasn't happening in her house.
Glitter + Red Dye + Glue + Borax + Shaving Cream + two giggly children = A Stained Mess

The Month of April is also a month of many birthdays in our family and at school too. She She and Leila's birthdays are a day apart so they get lumped in together and this year we got to throw party for them at our house!!

Mom didn't say anything at the time but she was sad that this was going to be the last bday party at our house in STL. Last Family celebration in a spot that had held so many wonderful memories for our family long before I was even born.
Trying to not dwell, we made the best of the time and ate like no one was watching---- that's how that saying goes, right?

AS you can see, we DO NOT joke around about our birthday treats and sweets. Everyone gets to choose what kind of cake they want for their birthday and then more often than not Gamma is super sweet and tries to accommodate everyone else too. This is pretty awesome for me because, well, I like cake!! I want a little of everything and then add ice cream and whipped cream on top (and a little in my mouth) plus whatever other sweets Gamma brings to sweeten the deal.

LeiLee and She She decided to go with Pizza for their birthday dinner and we couldn't have been more thrilled to make that wish come true. A friend of our just opened yet another Pizza place in The Lou but this one is perfect for our family. NO SHARING NECESSARY!! everyone gets their own personalized thin crust pizza just the way they like it and its soooo crazy good too. We Vote ZZA Pizza & Salad the best in the Midwest!

It was so much fun having everyone at our house because the sky was the limit on games, dog love and it also meant we got all the left over CAKE!!! Success!!

Ankle Emergency!!!

Lets just get it out there. Morty broke a tiny part of his ankle and Mom didn't believe him.
Yep, what you just read is totally true!

You see, how it happened was....
My friend Mark was having his 10th birthday at a place called Sky Zone. Its a trampoline park where you can bounce until your legs fall off (or you break your ankle) and you can also play dodge ball on a trampoline. I know - balls on a trampoline already sound like a bad idea but its super fun and we have done it several times before without breaking anything and Ive been the last person standing before too (Go me!). The only difference about this time was that Morty was playing against a professional Blues hockey player who happens to be Mark's Dad. It was all in good fun but when you step onto a ball while on a trampoline when you are trying to dodge a ball coming at you at high speed, things get a teeeeennnssy bit out of control and then you have a problem.

Morty came out of the game in tears but pulled it together and all seemed to be relatively fine until Mom found out that the aches he was complaining about was still happening a week later and Morty was electing to stay our of PE at school (his absolute favorite part of the day).
Mom decided that maybe she should correct her parenting fail and actually listen to his gripes and take him to the orthopedist. Two hours and a couple X-rays later, Morty was in a walking boot for 4 weeks. eek! You can tell he didn't totally mind the attention the boot brought on but he did mind missing out of PE and T-Ball. Lesson learned? Is the ache or pain last for more than a day --- don't ignore your kid. GO BLUES!!

Don't worry, Morty wasn't down for the count for long. He is his Father's son and the bike was calling his name. Off he went!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you remember that extremely excellent school auction where I "won" the dress my friend Will made for me? Well Mom also "won" a custom dress from the amazing designer of
She is crazy talented and every piece is swoon worthy. She also took into consideration my love of anything feminism + Anti-Trump and created the coolest T-shirt dress you have every seen.
Bad ass!

It's Band Concert Time again!!

Speaking of Bad Ass, guess what happens in April that I know you have all been waiting for? My Spring Band Concert ... oh yea!! I was a bit nervous again but in the excitement outweighed any butterflies I had. We practiced SOOOOOO much over the months I felt really prepared. Plus I learned my lesson about opting in to duets or solos, so really all I had to do was just keep the beat.

You can tell that Maeve was pretty psyched too. She hates our Band teacher so this last concert was her ticket to freedom (until she signed back up again in the Fall! ?!!)

Dad and Mo came to watch the final concert as well and they gave me a thumbs up, well not a thumps up.... a Ring finger up?!! You see, Morty and Dad were playing catch and it didn't end well for Morty. Mom learned her lesson and took him to urgent care on day 2 and while it was only a bad jam - Morty was all about the bandage!

We had 2 daytime concerts as well as 2 evening concerts
(Forsyth School plays with us as well)

Just listen to that flute section ... superb!~ (in comparison to the winter concert anyhow)

Mom's Break!

Every once in a while Mom has a getaway with Auntie Tiya and guess who's in charge?
Yep - This guy!! and maybe with a little help from Goldie the Dinosaur too.

Ps. How cute is Dad's Valentine gift to Mom? Creepy Cute but still!  We call him #DoobDad

Mom and Auntie Tiya decided to head down to Austin Texas for their getaway. They both wanted to go somewhere warm with good food & shopping. Austin checked all those boxes. What was the first thing Mom did when she got there? She ate a massive grilled cheese and decided her stomach was not going to dictate the rules of her vacation.... Poor auntie Tiya.

Mom was only gone for a couple days but one of those days was Easter! As you might have guessed its not a big holiday in our house but we do love egg hunts, baskets of goodies & candy so we get excited for the offers. Dad was in charge of all the festivities and I have to say he did a mighty fine job. Just look at those waffles WITH whipped cream!!!

Mom quite literally PHONED IT IN from Austin which was actually kind of fun seeing she had her Easter Bunny look going and Gamma came over to hang with us too which we always love.

All in all it turned out to be quite a busy month!
Bring on the warmer temps!!!
